Lefka, Cyprus. An 18-year-old man appeared before a court in Lefka on Tuesday accused of assaulting his 48-year-old fiancée, who is receiving hospital treatment after falling from a bathroom window.
Alleged assault and fall
A police officer told the court that at about 6.30am on Saturday, the man allegedly hit the woman on the head with his hands during a verbal argument at their home in Elia village, near Lefka.
The argument reportedly concerned the possibility of the woman taking their child with her.
The woman then locked herself in the bathroom and, fearing that the man would force his way inside, jumped from the window and fell about four metres to the ground.
Hospital treatment
The officer said the woman sustained a spinal fracture and a brain haemorrhage in the fall. She is being treated at Dr Burhan Nalbantoglu hospital in northern Nicosia.
Following the testimony, Judge Ergin Atici remanded the 18-year-old for three days.
