Paphos, Cyprus. The government aims to issue a call for tenders by the end of the year or early next year for a major section of the planned Paphos-Polis Chrysochous motorway, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades said on Thursday.
The proposed four-lane section, estimated to cost €108 million, would link Polis with Stroumbi as part of the project’s second phase.
Tender timetable
Speaking after a meeting with local authorities in Paphos, Vafeades said the target was to publish the tender notice by the end of the year or at the beginning of next year.
He said this was an objective rather than a fixed timetable.
Preparatory work
The project is currently at the land expropriation stage, while environmental studies are also under way.
Plans for the Paphos-Polis motorway have been discussed intermittently for the past two decades. Vafeades said residents had understandably become disappointed and tired of repeated promises, but said this should not lead to the project being abandoned.
Existing road works
On the construction of a third lane on the existing Paphos-Polis road, Vafeades said the first section was expected to be delivered soon, possibly within days.
