The Monastery of Apostle Andrew welcomed the first visitors
The first reconstruction stage of the Apostle Andrew monastery has been completed recently. The first pilgrims have already visited the holy place during this week. The reconstruction of the monastery, which is located at the Karpaz peninsula, started in Fall of 2014. Since then the internal wall and pulpit were restored, as well a majority of the icons were cleaned.
It is worth noting that the reconstruction was sponsored by the Church of Cyprus and Cypro-Tyrkish organisation “Evkaf”. Each of the two sides made equal contributions of 2,5 million Euros each.
The organisers of this undertaking believe that mutual protection of the cultural heritage will strengthen the trust between the two communities.
