The strike in the port of Limassol continues

Забастовка в порту Лимассола

Yesterday the strikers have announced that they are not planning to give up, regardless of the promises to temporarily postpone the issue of privatization.

Yesterday, the employees, including engineers and captains, of the port started the strike for an indefinite period to demonstrate that they are against the privatization. The leader of the SIDIKEK-PEO trade union Mr. Glafkos Constantinou stated that the strike will continue for as long as the government will keep ignoring the existing problems. The employees have accused the government in corruption.

The Minster of transport Mr. Marios Demetriades assures that there are no reasons for the strike, because all of the employee’s rights will be secured. In the worst case scenario, after privatization some of the employees will be transferred to another position in the government sector.
