Three arrested at Larnaca airport after duty-free tobacco found in luggage

Larnaca, Cyprus. Three passengers were arrested on Monday at Larnaca airport after large quantities of duty-free tobacco were found in their luggage, the customs department said on Tuesday.

Search and seizure

Customs agents searched the passengers’ luggage after receiving a tip-off as the three were set to depart for the UK. Officials found a total of 210 cartons containing 200 duty-free cigarettes each, with 70 cartons in each passenger’s luggage.

Arrests and settlements

The passengers were arrested and their luggage and contents were confiscated. They were later released after an out-of-court settlement of €4,200 each, totaling €12,600.
