Three arrested in Larnaca cannabis case; two YKAN officers injured during operation

Larnaca, Cyprus. Police said three people aged 27, 22 and 23 were arrested on Friday in the Larnaca area in connection with the possession of cannabis, with two YKAN officers injured during the operation.


Arrests and items seized

Police said a 27-year-old was arrested on Friday over the possession of 1 kilogram of cannabis in the Larnaca area.

According to police, two further suspects aged 22 and 23 were apprehended as part of the investigation on Friday and are currently in custody to assist with the inquiry.

Police said one of the suspects was found in possession of 1 kilogram of cannabis, while the other was found with precision scales bearing traces of cannabis and around 10 grams of the drug in his car.

Officers injured during operation

Police said two members of the YKAN drug squad were injured in road collisions during the operation to arrest the suspects.

The female police officer sustained a neck injury and bruising to her hand, while the male police officer suffered a double fracture to his hand. Police added that two official vehicles were extensively damaged.

Court proceedings

Police said the 22-year-old appeared before the Larnaca district court on Saturday and was remanded for eight days.
