Trikala, Greece. Firefighters discovered three bodies on Monday while battling a blaze at a food factory near Trikala in central Greece, the fire brigade said. Earlier reports said five people were unaccounted for.
Workers inside facility
Thirteen workers were inside the facility when the fire broke out in the early morning hours, a fire brigade official told Reuters. Eight managed to escape.
Firefighting response
Around 40 firefighters deployed 13 trucks to fight the blaze engulfing the industrial complex, as thick black smoke poured into the sky and flames tore across the building’s roof.
Cause under investigation
The cause of the fire remained unclear, the official said. Local media reported that a large explosion was heard shortly before the blaze started.
