Three vessels hit by unknown projectiles in Strait of Hormuz, one fire reported

Muscat, Oman. Three vessels were hit by unknown projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, maritime security agencies and sources said on Wednesday. One strike caused a fire on board a ship and prompted most crew to evacuate.

Mayuree Naree incident near Oman

The Thailand-flagged bulk carrier Mayuree Naree was targeted and damaged about 11 nautical miles north of Oman, according to two maritime security sources. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) later said the fire had been extinguished, there was no environmental impact, and necessary crew remained on the vessel.

One Majesty damaged near Ras Al Khaimah

The Japan-flagged container ship One Majesty sustained minor damage from an unknown projectile about 25 nautical miles (46 km) northwest of Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates, two maritime security sources said. The sources said crew members were safe and the vessel was sailing toward a safe anchorage.

Star Gwyneth hit northwest of Dubai

A third vessel, a bulk carrier, was also struck by an unknown projectile about 50 miles northwest of Dubai, maritime security firms said. The projectile damaged the hull of the Marshall Islands-flagged Star Gwyneth, maritime risk management company Vanguard said, adding that the crew were safe.

Shipping traffic and broader context

Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route accounting for about 20% of global oil and gas supply, has dropped rapidly since the Iran conflict began on February 28. The latest incidents bring the number of ships attacked since the conflict began to at least 14.

How might the decline in traffic through the Strait of Hormuz affect global oil and gas supply?
