Toronto offers football-themed free condoms ahead of World Cup visitor surge

Toronto, Canada. As the city prepares for the World Cup, Toronto Public Health is offering free football-inspired condoms as part of a safer sex initiative. The tournament is expected to bring more than 300,000 visitors between June 11 and July 19.

Limited edition condom designs

Toronto Public Health will distribute limited edition condoms featuring six designs that it said “celebrate the energy of the games while promoting sexual health.” The lineup includes slogans such as “Block those shots!”, “What a finish!” and “Peaches & Cream,” with the “Peaches & Cream” image featuring a peach and eggplant in front of a goal.

Distribution through sexual health clinics

The condoms and other safer sex supplies will be available at four Toronto Public Health-operated sexual health clinics through the unit’s CondomTO initiative, which aims to promote safer sex, reduce stigma and connect people with sexual health services.

Public health message

On its website, the unit said studies show that using a condom every time a person has oral, anal or vaginal sex decreases the risk of sexually transmitted and bloodborne infections (STBBIs), HIV and/or unplanned pregnancy.

World Cup co-hosting

Canada is co-hosting the World Cup alongside the U.S. and Mexico.
