Athens, Greece. The Cypriot scientific documentary Troodos Rising to the Stars won its first international award, receiving the Best VFX prize at the Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival. The film explores the Troodos mountains and their connection to astronomy.

The documentary traces the Troodos mountains’ emergence from the sea to their modern-day connection with astronomy and the wider universe. It features footage from various locations in the Troodos Geopark, alongside visual effects provided by an international company and scientific documentation combining geology and stargazing.
Music and funding
The film’s soundtrack includes original compositions created for the documentary as well as opera pieces. Troodos Rising to the Stars was funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) through the CARES programme, implemented in Cyprus in 2025.

The documentary was directed by Stelios Tryfon and produced by Theofanis Matsopoulos. It is screening daily at the Troodos Observatory.
