Two children die after being left in car in Dhekelia, investigation under way

Dhekelia, Cyprus. Two children aged eight and 10 have died in the British base of Dhekelia after being left in a car to sleep. Police and ambulance services attended the scene and confirmed the deaths.

The children, who were from the same family, were found dead in the car, according to reports. A spokesman for the British bases confirmed that two children had died.

Family and cause of death

The children were reportedly left in the car to sleep while their parents, who were said to be from Bulgaria, were elsewhere. They are believed to have suffocated, although the exact cause of death is expected to be determined by an autopsy.

Location of inquiries

The British bases spokesman said officers were at a house in Xylophagou investigating the cause of death.
