Astromeritis, Cyprus. Two Greek Cypriots arrested in the north on Sunday were remanded in custody for three days on Monday, Turkish Cypriot police said. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
Arrest and court proceedings
The pair appeared before a court on Monday, where remand orders were issued, according to Turkish Cypriot police.
Alleged crossing violations
Police said the two were arrested at the Astromeritis crossing point, near Morphou, after allegedly entering the north through the Limnitis crossing point near Lefka without completing the required immigration procedures.
The allegation is understood to relate to a failure to present identity cards or passports to Turkish Cypriot police at the crossing point.
Potential charge
The two appear to be accused of violating a military zone, a charge commonly brought by Turkish Cypriot authorities against people alleged to have crossed the Green Line illegally.
