Washington, United States. The U.S. military said late Monday it completed its latest round of strikes on Iran, targeting military command centers, missile and drone launch sites, maritime capabilities and air defense systems.
U.S. Central Command announced the operation in a post on X, saying the strikes lasted about five hours.
Military operations
The latest operation marked the 10th consecutive night of U.S. strikes on Iran. Washington said it was seeking to “degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking commercial vessels flowing through the Strait of Hormuz.”
The war began when the United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, followed by Iranian strikes against Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. bases.
Conflict impact
U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran and Israeli attacks on Lebanon during the war have killed thousands and displaced millions. The conflict has also raised oil prices and shaken global markets.
U.S. troop deaths in the war rose to 17 over the weekend. On Monday, President Donald Trump vowed revenge against Iran following the deadly weekend for U.S. troops.
Concerns over expanded targets
In the past week, Trump threatened to expand targets in Iran to include energy plants and bridges. The 1949 Geneva Conventions prohibit attacks on sites considered essential for civilians.
After Trump’s previous threats to strike such targets, international law experts in the United States said earlier this year that such attacks could amount to war crimes.
