Engels, Russia. Ukrainian drone strikes killed at least two people in Russia’s Volga River regions overnight, while attacks also targeted a Wildberries warehouse and industrial facilities, regional officials said on Sunday.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said it had downed 635 Ukrainian drones during the night.
Warehouse and industrial sites targeted
Kyiv’s drones attacked a Wildberries warehouse in the Samara region, about 800 kilometres from Ukraine’s most advanced military positions, Samara Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said.
He said there were no casualties and that firefighters were extinguishing a blaze caused by the attack. Wildberries is Russia’s largest online retailer.
Ukrainian forces have expanded strikes deeper into Russia, targeting economic and energy infrastructure in an effort to undermine Moscow’s ability to wage its more than four-year-old war in Ukraine.
About a dozen Wildberries sites have been attacked since July 18 in an effort to disrupt the company’s operations.
Deaths and damage in Saratov region
A strike on a residential building in the neighbouring Saratov region killed two people in Engels, Governor Roman Busargin said.
Civil infrastructure was damaged in both Engels and the city of Saratov, he said. Saratov hosts a major oil refinery, while Engels is home to a military airbase. Both cities have faced repeated Ukrainian attacks in recent years.
Attack reported in Bashkortostan
Bashkortostan Governor Radiy Khabirov said air defence units had repelled a major drone attack on industrial facilities.
One drone was shot down over an industrial area in Ufa, the regional capital, and a fire was being extinguished, he said.
