Rome, Italy. Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani has died at the age of 93, his foundation said on Monday. He retired in 2008.
Foundation announcement
“Valentino Garavani passed away today at his Roman residence, surrounded by his loved ones,” the foundation said in a post on Instagram.
Funeral arrangements
The foundation said lying in state will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. The funeral will be held in Rome on Friday at 11 am (1000 GMT).
Career and legacy
Founder of the eponymous brand, Valentino built a business empire and introduced the colour known as ‘Valentino Red’. He was ranked alongside Giorgio Armani and Karl Lagerfeld as among the last of the great designers from an era before fashion became a global, highly commercial industry.
Peers
Lagerfeld died in 2019, while Armani died in September.
