Volt co-leaders file candidacies for parliamentary elections in Nicosia and Limassol

Nicosia, Cyprus. Volt’s co-leaders Andromachi Sophocleous and Panos Loizou Parras on Wednesday filed their candidacies for the forthcoming parliamentary elections in the Nicosia and Limassol districts, respectively.

Candidacies and campaign message

In Nicosia, Sophocleous said the party is “proud of each of the 56” candidates it is fielding. She said Volt “did not come as a coincidence, but as a political necessity,” describing it as “a party which emerges from the problems of the 21st century” and “a modern voice.”

Sophocleous said the party prioritises the cost of living, adding that it is ready to confront corruption and present a vision for the public. She also said the pan-European party “will be in parliament,” citing polling that she said suggests the party is on the rise, and added that “what it must clarify is its participation.”

In Limassol, Parras said Wednesday was “a historic day” for the party, adding that “56 very capable candidates and thousands of voters” are joining the election campaign. He said the party is demanding “an effective state – a functional, fair state which will serve everyone,” and added that “we will be in the new parliament with a strong list of candidates.”

Parras also said he believes “the time has come for each political party to prove its political usefulness for the country.”

Parliamentary seats by district

A total of 19 of the 56 MPs elected will be from the Nicosia district, while 12 will be elected from the Limassol district.
