London, United Kingdom. British Health Secretary Wes Streeting resigned from government on Thursday, saying he had lost confidence in Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s leadership.
Resignation letter
In a letter published on X, Streeting said it was clear that Starmer would not lead the Labour Party into the next general election.
Call for leadership debate
Streeting said Labour MPs and Labour unions wanted the debate about what comes next to be a battle of ideas rather than “personalities or petty factionalism.”
Broader candidate field
Streeting said the debate needed to be broad and include the best possible field of candidates, adding that he supported that approach and hoped Starmer would facilitate it.
How do you think Streeting’s resignation will affect the Labour Party’s leadership debate?
