Limassol, Cyprus. A wildfire that broke out between the Limassol district villages of Lania and Limnatis was contained, forestry department spokesman Glafkos Kyriacou said on Tuesday.
The blaze mainly affected agricultural land and wild vegetation, while its cause will be investigated after it has been fully extinguished.
Firefighting response
Kyriacou told the Cyprus News Agency that the forestry department deployed seven fire engines, a tanker, two earth movers and 45 forest firefighters after the alarm was raised.
The fire brigade also deployed two firefighting helicopters and three firefighting aircraft to support operations from the air.
Investigation pending
“Fortunately, we got ahead of the fire, and it has been contained,” Kyriacou said.
Authorities will investigate the cause once the fire has been completely extinguished.
