Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ forestry department and the cycling federation have agreed to set up a working group next month to map specific mountain biking routes for evaluation and approval.
Decision and timeline
The decision was taken on Monday by the forestry department and the cycling federation, led by their heads Savvas Iezekiel and Giorgos Georgiou respectively. The working group is expected to begin work in February.
Environmental considerations
Iezekiel said there is a need to respect and protect the environment, and said this was why the decision was taken to appoint the working group.
Cooperation and infrastructure
The two sides also decided to explore ways to enhance cooperation to benefit cycling and the sustainable utilisation of the country’s natural resources. Georgiou said the federation would actively contribute to creating safe and approved infrastructure to promote mountain biking in Cyprus.
