44th Lefkara Festival to bring music, crafts and food events to the village

Lefkara, Cyprus. The 44th Lefkara Festival will take place from August 7 to 22, bringing a three-week programme of cultural events, music, crafts, food and activities to the village in the Larnaca district.

Opening events

The festival will open with an embroidery and silversmith exhibition at 7.30pm, followed by the official opening concert dedicated to Greek singer Marinella, who recently died.

Elena Giannakou, Liza Theofanous and Christodoula Tsangara will perform songs by Marinella, accompanied by a six-piece orchestra.

The following evening, singers Thanos Petrelis and Eleftheria Eleftheriou will perform in a ticketed concert. General admission, including a table and couch options, costs €20, while arena entry with one drink costs €25.

On Sunday, August 9, a Lefkara music night will pay tribute to Manos Loizos, with participation by local choirs from Lefkara and Kornos and the Pano Lefkara dance ensemble.

Family, theatre and heritage events

A children’s fun fair will be held on Monday, August 10, featuring theatre, music, dance, bouncy castles and face painting.

The comedy theatre performance I Marikkou I Raftena will be staged on August 11.

On August 12, a bridge pairs competition will begin at 2.30pm. The same day will include a music, narration and screening performance by Demetris Mesimeris and Frederiki Tombazou honouring Lefkara’s silversmiths.

Music and food programme

DJ Louis will present the Back to the 80s, 90s and 00s event at 8.30pm on August 13. Giorgos Stamataris and Stavriana Koutra will perform in concert on August 14.

On August 16, Lefkara’s alleys will host an evening of song and dance. The Lefkara Street Food Festival will also return that evening, followed by a live performance by Greek band Alcatrash.

The festival will conclude on August 22 with songs from Greece and Cyprus by the ensemble Asikides and dances by the Pano Lefkara group.
