Ayia Napa Medieval Festival returns with a focus on the women of medieval Cyprus
The Ayia Napa Medieval Festival runs from October 14 to 18, with free performances, parades, concerts and activities inspired by the women associated with medieval Cyprus’ crown.

Ayia Napa, Cyprus. The Ayia Napa Medieval Festival will return from October 14 to 18, turning the popular summer destination into a setting for medieval-themed entertainment. The annual event is billed as four days of parades, concerts, exhibitions and activities, with performances open to the public free of charge.
Women at the heart of the theme
This year’s theme, Ayia Napa: The Crown of the Mediterranean, explores the political, diplomatic and cultural roles of women who held, sought or represented the crown in medieval Cyprus.
The festival’s artistic storyline draws on Alice of Champagne, Eleanor of Aragon, Helena Palaiologina, Charlotte of Cyprus and Catherine Cornaro, combining historical material with legend. Frankish, Byzantine, Latin and Venetian elements also present the island as a crossroads linking East and West.
International acts and street performances
Performing groups travelling from Italy, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and Belarus will use the town’s streets and square as an outdoor performance space. The programme features flag-waving by Gruppo Storico Fivizzano, the giant walking act Cromosauro and Reinas, a royal-themed music and dance production.
Fairytale figures will appear through The White Horses, Fantasy World and Voyage Fantastique, while Steam Show will provide a fire performance.
Three performance sites near the square and monastery will allow audiences to engage directly with the artists. Knights, flag-bearers, fire dancers and folk musicians will populate the streets as the town takes on its annual October medieval atmosphere.
Parades will feature marching bands, drumming and fire displays, alongside concerts continuing late into the night in central Ayia Napa. Local performers and visiting international artists will also contribute street entertainment, workshops and concerts.
Venue and contact details
The festival takes place at Giorgos Seferis Cultural Centre Square in Ayia Napa, October 14-18.
