Manchester, United Kingdom. A British man in his 60s has admitted repeatedly drugging and raping his wife at their home over more than two decades, shortly before his trial was due to begin.

He pleaded guilty at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court to 45 charges after previously admitting 15 offences. He cannot be named because doing so would identify his wife, who has lifelong anonymity.

Charges admitted

The man admitted 21 counts of rape, 15 counts of assault by penetration, 11 counts of sexual assault and one count of sharing intimate images without consent between 2004 and 2025.

He also admitted administering a substance to stupefy his wife.

Prosecution case

Prosecutors said the woman was repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted in her home while unconscious after being drugged by her husband.

Other defendants

Twelve other men, aged between 28 and 74, are also charged with sexually abusing the victim between 2018 and 2025. All have denied the allegations, which include rape.

Their trial is due to take place at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court and is expected to last several months.
