Nicosia, Cyprus. A senior delegation from India’s defence ministry met representatives of Cypriot businesses and defence industries on Monday to explore cooperation involving defence, space and dual-use technologies. The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve) hosted the meeting.

Industry capabilities and potential partnerships

India’s Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh led the visiting delegation. Participants included Indian High Commissioner to Cyprus Manish Manish, Invest Cyprus’ director general, and representatives from both countries’ defence sectors.

The Cyprus Defence and Space Industry Cluster (CyDSIC), which functions under Keve, outlined what Cypriot companies can offer and presented possibilities for partnerships internationally.

Participants also examined ways for businesses and organisations from Cyprus and India to expand collaboration in innovation, advanced technologies, defence and space.

Chamber highlights bilateral ties

In welcoming the visitors, Keve president Stavros Stavrou emphasised the strong ties between the two countries and the chamber’s long-established working relationship with the Indian High Commission.

Stavrou said government-level contacts and business missions were giving bilateral relations increasing momentum and creating opportunities in sectors of strategic importance.

Keve reiterated its commitment to backing initiatives that strengthen economic links and business relationships between Cyprus and India.

Official visit and defence priorities

The meeting formed part of Singh’s official Cyprus visit on October 12 and 13, before his onward journey to Greece. He is expected to hold talks on Tuesday with Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas.

India’s defence ministry identified maritime security and cooperation between defence industries as key priorities for the visit. The ministry said the trip followed President Nikos Christodoulides’ visit to India in May and efforts to strengthen the countries’ strategic partnership.
