Expert outlines potential implications of Lukoil deal
A potential major energy agreement involving Russia’s Lukoil could create new strategic opportunities for Cyprus and Greece and change Washington’s approach to the war in Ukraine, international relations expert Charalambos Chrysostomou said.
Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), Chrysostomou said an agreement between the United States and Russia over Lukoil’s international assets could serve as a bridge between the two countries and influence the course of the war.
Reports have suggested that US President Donald Trump’s administration has included a multi-billion-dollar oil deal in negotiations with Moscow over ending the war.
The reported agreement concerns a broad portfolio of oil fields, refineries and fuel stations owned by Lukoil in several countries. Any such deal would require formal approval by both the United States and Russia.
