Cyprus consumer prices rise 3.5 per cent year-on-year in May 2026

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices rose by 3.5 per cent in May 2026 compared with the same month a year earlier, according to figures released by the Cyprus Statistical Service. On a monthly basis, the index increased by 0.8 per cent from April 2026 to May 2026.

Annual changes by sector

Compared with May 2025, transport recorded the largest increase among sectors, rising by 9.7 per cent. Recreation, sports and culture followed with an increase of 7.8 per cent.

Clothing and footwear recorded the largest decline, falling by 8.5 per cent year-on-year. Information and communication also decreased, down 2.9 per cent from May 2025.

Monthly changes by sector

Between April 2026 and May 2026, the largest monthly increase was recorded in restaurants and accommodation services, which rose by 4.9 per cent. Housing, water, electricity, natural gas and other fuels increased by 2.0 per cent.

Energy category

Cystat said energy was the main source of volatility in both the annual and monthly comparisons. Energy prices rose by 12.6 per cent compared with May 2025 and by 2.1 per cent compared with April 2026.
