Nicosia, Cyprus. A buyer in Cyprus would need to save almost two years of the country’s average gross salary to raise a 20 per cent deposit for an average-sized home, according to a BestBrokers analysis. Separately, Eurobank S.A. and Demetra Holdings Plc announced share repurchases under authorised buyback programmes.

Home deposit calculation

BestBrokers estimated that an average-sized home of 108 square metres in Cyprus costs €305,296. A buyer contributing 20 per cent would therefore need €61,059 before obtaining a mortgage for the remaining amount.

Based on estimated average gross monthly income of €2,603, the required deposit is equivalent to 23 months of pay. The calculation assumes that the buyer saves their entire pre-tax salary and has no spending on rent, food, electricity, transport or other household costs.

The income estimate is close to the latest wage data, which placed average gross earnings at €2,601 in the first quarter of 2026. However, average earnings are raised by higher incomes and do not reflect the pay received by most workers.

Eurobank share repurchases

Eurobank S.A. spent almost €5.88 million repurchasing more than 1.3 million of its own shares on Euronext Athens between August 17 and August 21, 2026.

The lender announced the acquisitions on Monday as part of an ongoing share buyback programme approved by shareholders at its annual general meeting on April 28, 2026.

The buyback framework was established under the relevant article of applicable law and was subsequently endorsed by a board resolution on April 29, 2026.

Demetra Holdings transaction

Cypriot investment firm Demetra Holdings Plc repurchased 3,396 of its own shares on August 21, 2026, under an authorised share buyback programme.

The repurchase followed authorisation granted by shareholders at the company’s annual general meeting on June 30, 2026. The transaction was executed on the company’s behalf through Cyprus Investment & Securities Corporation Ltd (CISCO).
