Cyprus hotel outlook, Larnaca permits and Freedom24’s Geneva plans
Cyprus hotels aim to limit 2026 losses, Larnaca cleared more permit cases than applications in July, and Freedom24 is considering a presence in Geneva.

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ hotel sector is aiming to limit losses in 2026 to about 10 per cent after improved bookings in July and August, according to the Cyprus Hotel Association. Separately, Larnaca’s district authority processed more planning and building permit cases than it received in several categories in July, while Freedom24 said it was exploring a presence in Geneva.
Hotel sector outlook
Cyprus Hotel Association (Pasyxe) director-general Christos Angelides said the sector had faced major difficulties in March, April and May, recording losses of around 30 per cent for the period and cancellations for the rest of the season.
Angelides told the Cyprus News Agency that efforts by the private sector, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, ACTTA, Hermes and their members appeared to have produced results.
He said a significant amount of lost ground was recovered in June, while July and August performed at satisfactory levels despite the large number of earlier cancellations.
Angelides said the performance was particularly encouraging because 2025 had been a historic year for the hotel industry, with almost all hotels operating at full capacity.
Larnaca permit processing
The Larnaca district local government organisation (EOA) said it cleared more planning and building permit applications than it received in July, allowing it to address older cases while keeping pace with new demand.
The authority said its results were the best in Cyprus for Category I planning and building permits during the month.
It completed 267 Category I planning permits against 256 new applications, producing a processing rate of 104 per cent. For Category I building permits, it completed 420 cases and received 339 applications, for a rate of 124 per cent.
For Category II planning permits, the EOA completed 142 cases while receiving 133 applications, resulting in a rate of 107 per cent. Category II building permits recorded 114 completed cases against 138 submissions, leaving the processing rate at 83 per cent.
Freedom24 considers Geneva presence
Financial technology and stockbrokerage company Freedom24 said it is exploring the possibility of establishing a presence in Geneva.
The European financial technology firm said it considers Switzerland a market of long-term strategic interest.
