Nicosia, Cyprus. Employees’ median monthly pay before deductions reached €1,953 in 2025, an increase of 3.8 per cent, the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) reported. Average earnings on the same basis climbed 4.3 per cent to €2,591.

Average earnings exceed median by about a third

Cystat’s figures put the 2024 median at €1,881 and the average at €2,483. In 2025, the difference between the two measures was €638, placing average pay around 33 per cent higher than the median.

The distinction reflects how the measures are calculated. The median marks the centre of the pay distribution, with equal numbers of employees earning above and below it, making it generally more representative of a typical employee’s earnings.

The average, by comparison, divides employees’ combined earnings by the total employee count. A relatively small group of very highly paid employees can raise that figure, reducing its usefulness as an indicator of typical pay.

Largest earnings group received €1,000–€1,249

The earnings breakdown from Cystat showed that 13 per cent of employees received between €1,000 and €1,249 a month before deductions, making this the largest salary group.

The next largest bracket was €1,500–€1,749, covering 11.4 per cent of employees. Those receiving €1,250–€1,499 represented 11.2 per cent.

Taken together, the figures placed 24.2 per cent of employees below €1,500 in monthly earnings: 13 per cent in the €1,000–€1,249 range and 11.2 per cent in the €1,250–€1,499 range.

Differences between women’s and men’s pay brackets

Cystat’s breakdown also identified differences in the distribution of male and female employees across salary ranges.

The proportion of women receiving €1,000–€1,249 monthly was 3.3 percentage points above the equivalent proportion of men. In the €1,250–€1,499 bracket, the corresponding difference was 3.5 percentage points.
