Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus will provide €200,000 in humanitarian aid to Nepal through its CyprusAid programme following catastrophic flash floods last week, the foreign ministry announced on Monday.

The funds will be channelled through the UN emergency response fund and Unicef.

Humanitarian support

The foreign ministry said in a post on X that international solidarity and humanitarian action remain fundamental principles of Cyprus’ foreign policy.

Flood aftermath

The floods were triggered by a landslide near the Nepal-China border last Wednesday, sending water, ice and debris through the Bhote Koshi river basin.

Nepal’s disaster management authority said the death toll had risen to 903 by Monday, while 4,247 people remained missing.

Poor weather and difficult terrain have continued to hinder rescue efforts, with Nepal seeking specialist support from India and China.
