Cyprus tourism revenue falls 4.8% in May as visitor arrivals decline

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ tourism revenue fell by 4.8 per cent in May 2026 to €355.2 million, compared with €373.3 million in the same month of 2025, according to the Cyprus Statistical Service.

The decline coincided with lower tourist arrivals, with regional instability and the war in Iran affecting the sector during 2026.

January to May revenue

Tourism revenue for the January to May 2026 period was estimated at €798.2 million, down 16.5 per cent from €955.8 million in the corresponding period of 2025.

Average expenditure per tourist remained broadly unchanged in May, standing at €779.42 compared with €779.08 a year earlier.

United Kingdom market

Visitors from the United Kingdom remained Cyprus’ largest tourist market, accounting for 36.3 per cent of all arrivals in May 2026.

The number of British visitors fell to 165,600 in May from 179,150 a year earlier.

Average spending by British tourists declined to €909.81 per person from €948.39 in May 2025, while average daily expenditure increased to €102.23 from €97.77.

Their average length of stay fell to 8.9 days, compared with 9.7 days in May 2025.
