Nicosia, Cyprus. Tourist arrivals to Cyprus fell by 3.3 per cent in August compared with the same month in 2025, as arrivals from Britain, Poland, Germany and most other major markets weakened. A sharp increase in visitors from Israel helped limit the decline.

August arrivals

A total of 581,880 tourist arrivals were recorded in August, compared with 602,026 in August 2025, according to figures released on Thursday by the statistical service, Cystat.

Despite the annual decline, arrivals were 4.9 per cent higher than in August 2024, when Cyprus received 554,923 visitors.

January to August figures

Tourist arrivals between January and August reached 2,820,649, down 7 per cent from 3,034,155 during the corresponding period of 2025. Cyprus received 213,506 fewer tourists in the first eight months of the year.

The percentage shortfall narrowed over the summer, from 10.1 per cent at the end of June to 8 per cent at the end of July and 7 per cent after August.

However, the gap with 2025 widened in absolute terms during August, rising from 193,360 arrivals at the end of July to 213,506. August itself recorded 20,146 fewer arrivals than the same month last year.

Key markets

The United Kingdom remained Cyprus’ largest tourism market, accounting for 30.5 per cent of total arrivals, with 177,603 visitors.

British arrivals were 8 per cent lower than the 193,091 recorded in August 2025 and 7.7 per cent below the 192,424 registered in August 2024.

Israel accounted for 23.3 per cent of total arrivals after visitor numbers rose to 135,628. This was 28.4 per cent higher than the 105,597 recorded last year and 83.2 per cent above the 74,032 arrivals registered in August 2024.

The Israeli market added more than 30,000 visitors to the monthly total compared with last year.
