€250,000 allocated for modern animal shelter in Paphos
A modern animal shelter in Paphos is planned for completion within 18 months, with efforts continuing to identify a suitable site.

Paphos, Cyprus. A total of €250,000 will be allocated for the construction of a modern animal shelter in Paphos, scheduled for completion within 18 months, Animal Welfare Commissioner Elias Myrianthous said on Wednesday.
Search for a suitable location
Speaking after a meeting with acting Paphos mayor Angelos Onesiforos, Myrianthous said efforts would be made to identify the most appropriate location for the shelter, aiming to provide a definitive solution to the management of stray animals in the area.
A state-owned plot in the Anarita community was initially selected as a possible location for the provincial shelter. The proposal, however, faced strong opposition from the Paphos community union and the local authority.
Myrianthous said current efforts were focused on removing possible obstacles to allow the project to proceed as soon as possible. He also left open the possibility of selecting an alternative site.
Stray animal care
Myrianthous said that, despite existing infrastructure in the province’s four municipalities, care for stray animals had largely depended on private and mainly voluntary initiatives, as the available facilities were insufficient to effectively address the problem.
Onesiforos acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and expressed hope that it could be resolved through cooperation among all parties involved.
