Nicosia, Cyprus. The National Betting Authority (EAS) will host the ninth Safe Gaming Week from October 12 to 18, focusing on responsible gambling, prevention, self-control and safe participation.

The campaign will use figures from Greek mythology to highlight behaviours linked to gambling and the early recognition of risks.

Campaign theme

EAS said this year’s campaign brings together “the myths of yesterday” and “the behaviours of today” through four figures from Greek mythology: Odysseas, Achilleas, Midas and Icarus.

According to the authority, the figures represent behaviours that remain relevant, including the need for self-control and foresight, the belief that “it won’t happen to me”, greed, the desire for more and excessive self-confidence that can lead to wrong decisions.

Awareness activities

The authority said it aims to shift the discussion from general risk to the early recognition of risks.

During the week, EAS will carry out a series of actions and information campaigns intended to reach the public through informative and experiential activities.

Responsible participation

EAS said the campaign seeks to strengthen public awareness and cultivate a culture of safe participation, in which gambling remains a form of entertainment.

It said awareness of personal limits, self-control and early recognition of behaviours that may lead to loss of control are key protective factors.

“Limits do not limit play, they protect the enjoyment of play,” EAS said.
