Four suspects remanded in custody over Kyrenia murder investigation

Kyrenia, Cyprus. Four of seven people arrested in connection with the murder of 40-year-old Nizam Allanazarov appeared in court on Friday, facing allegations related to the killing and drug possession. Their remand in custody was extended by seven days.
Murder allegation
A 30-year-old man was charged with premeditated murder, illegal possession of a knife and living in the north without residence documents.
According to Yeniduzen, police sergeant Uzeyir Kursat Koser told the court that the investigation had “only just begun”. He said further statements were expected to be taken and CCTV footage from nearby buildings would be examined.
Judge Mine Gunduz Serden granted a request to extend the suspect’s remand for a further seven days.
Drug possession allegations
Three other men, aged 37, 33 and 31, also appeared before the court. A police officer said the 37-year-old and the 31-year-old had been travelling in the same vehicle as Allanazarov before the attack.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police found five grams of illegal drugs, the officer said. He added that the 33-year-old was also found to have drugs in his possession when he was arrested.
The officer said the 33-year-old had been living in the north without residence documents since April 2023. The 37-year-old and 31-year-old said the drugs found in their possession had been given to them by Allanazarov.
Medical examination ordered
The 37-year-old told the court that he did not remember the incident and wanted to know why he had been arrested. He also requested a hospital examination for injuries he had sustained.
Judge Serden extended the remand of all three men for a further seven days and ordered a medical examination for the 37-year-old.
