Nicosia, Cyprus. The funeral of Ismail Kurt, the first Cypriot confirmed to have died in the ferry sinking off the coast of Kyrenia on Sunday, was held on Friday at the Nicosia Turkish Cypriot ceremony on the capital’s northern outskirts.

Kurt was the ninth person confirmed dead following the accident. His body was recovered from the ferry wreckage on Wednesday night, while the total confirmed death toll has since risen to 12.


Officials attend funeral

The funeral was attended by Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman, ‘prime minister’ Unal Ustel, deputy prime minister Fikri Ataoglu, opposition CTP leader Sila Usar Incirli and other dignitaries.
