German-language film screens in Nicosia as part of Europe in Cinema series

Nicosia, Cyprus. A German-language film with English subtitles will screen in Nicosia this week as part of a year-long series highlighting European cinema. The Europe in Cinema programme is presented by the European Union National Institutes for Culture in Cyprus with the Friends of Cinema Society.

Within the programme, Goethe-Institut Cyprus will present When Will It Be Again Like It Never Was Before on May 6 at Pantheon Theatre in Nicosia at 8.30pm. Film background

The upcoming film is directed by Sonja Heiss and is based on the bestselling autobiographical novel by Joachim Meyerhoff. It follows Joachim, the youngest son of the director of one of Germany’s largest psychiatric hospitals, who grows up on the hospital grounds where the family home is located. The story portrays the patients as part of his everyday life and presents a coming-of-age narrative focused on childhood and adolescence under unusual circumstances.
