Agriculture ministry inspectors were deployed to assess hail and wind damage to crops, greenhouses, homes and photovoltaic installations.

Paphos, Cyprus. The agriculture ministry on Monday deployed inspectors to assess crop damage caused by Saturday’s storm and determine compensation for affected farmers.
Permanent secretary Andreas Gregoriou said hail and strong winds mainly affected vineyards and seasonal crops.
Damage assessment
Gregoriou said extreme weather events occur frequently throughout the year in Cyprus.
Polis Chrysochous mayor Yiotis Papachristofi said the main damage in the Paphos district was recorded between Argaka and Pomos, where a greenhouse and photovoltaic installations were affected.
Damage in Ayia Marina Chrysochous
Ayia Marina Chrysochous deputy mayor Patroklos Evangelou said rainfall from the storm had benefited farmers and the natural environment, but strong winds had caused serious problems in the area.
He said homes, photovoltaic installations, around six greenhouses and crops including avocados and mangoes were damaged, leaving farmers facing significant losses.
Evangelou called on the government and the district local government organisation to immediately assess and record the damage so those affected could receive compensation.
