Israel orders temporary shutdown of parts of natural gas infrastructure after strikes on Iran

Jerusalem, Israel. Israel’s Energy Ministry has ordered the temporary shutdown of parts of the country’s natural gas infrastructure following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, sources told Reuters.

Fields and facilities affected

The shutdown includes the Leviathan offshore gas field operated by Chevron, three sources told Reuters.

Energean said in a statement that its production vessel, which serves several Israeli fields, has also been shut down.

Ministry statement and contingency plans

The ministry said the decision was based on “the current situation and in accordance with security assessments,” adding that Israel’s energy needs would be met through alternative sources.

It said the electricity sector was prepared to operate power stations using alternative fuels if necessary.

The ministry declined to specify which fields were affected.

Company response

Chevron directed a request for comment to the ministry.
