Justice minister meets delivery firms over driver safety after attacks
Justice Minister Costas Fitiris met delivery company representatives and police to discuss stronger protection for delivery drivers following recent attacks.

Nicosia, Cyprus. Justice Minister Costas Fitiris met representatives of delivery companies on Wednesday to discuss the safety of their drivers following a series of attacks. Deputy police chief Michalis Katsounotos also attended the meeting.
Safety measures and cooperation
The discussion focused on delivery companies’ concerns, with representatives submitting suggestions aimed at improving protection for drivers and preventing further incidents.
Police briefed the companies on measures already being taken to prevent attacks and improve information sharing. The meeting also considered strengthening cooperation between police and delivery companies to enable more direct exchanges of information.
“The goal is to strengthen the safety of distributors through substantial cooperation, timely information and coordinated preventive actions,” the ministry said.
Recent attacks
The meeting followed several attacks on food delivery workers in recent months.
Most recently, a 34-year-old delivery driver was assaulted in Larnaca last Thursday while riding his moped on Dianellou street. Police said two people on a motorcycle attacked him, causing him to lose control and collide with a parked car.
In Paphos, five delivery drivers were attacked on August 18 after a dispute over payment for an order escalated.
