Larnaca, Cyprus. A 30-year-old motorcyclist from Larnaca died following a head-on collision with a car on the Kellia-Troulloi road, police said.

Georgios Georgiou was riding a high-powered motorcycle belonging to another person when the crash occurred at about 7.30pm.

Collision circumstances

Preliminary examinations indicate that Georgiou entered a bend and crossed into the oncoming lane, where his motorcycle collided head-on with a saloon car driven by a 28-year-old woman.

A 32-year-old front-seat passenger and two children, aged four and two, were also in the car.

Hospital treatment and investigation

Georgiou and the car’s occupants were taken by ambulance to Larnaca General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The car’s occupants received first aid and were discharged.

Preliminary examinations found that Georgiou was not wearing a protective helmet at the time of the crash.

The car’s driver underwent alcohol and drug tests, both of which returned negative results.

A post-mortem examination was scheduled for 10.30am to determine the cause of Georgiou’s death. Larnaca Traffic Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
