Limassol, Cyprus. The Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Evel) has paid tribute to businessman Andreas Laos, a former vice-president for industry and long-serving member of the city’s business community, following his death.

The chamber’s president, board members and staff extended condolences to Laos’ family and loved ones.

Chamber service

Evel described Laos as a businessman of “exceptional and noble character” who served the business community with consistency and dedication.

According to the chamber, he joined its board in 1996 and served as vice-president for industry from 2009 to 2014.

During his term as vice-president, Laos made a substantial contribution to the development and strengthening of industry in Limassol and Cyprus, the chamber said.

Recognition and public contribution

Laos continued to participate in the chamber’s work beyond his term as industry vice-president, according to chamber records.

In 2019, Evel formally honoured him for his contribution to the chamber and Limassol’s business community. At the time, it described his contribution as multifaceted and recognised his long involvement in Limassol entrepreneurship.

Earlier records also showed him representing the chamber in discussions on economic and industrial matters affecting the district.

Condolences

In its farewell message, the chamber also referred to Laos’ contribution to public life and his personal qualities.

It said his “ethos, kindness and valuable legacy” would remain in the memory of those who knew and worked with him, and extended its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
