Nicosia, Cyprus. A series of live music events, including festival concerts, jazz, blues and American Songbook performances, are scheduled across Nicosia during August. The programme includes events in Eleftheria Square, Sarah’s Jazz Club and the To Skali – Andreas Petrou cultural centre.


Summer Nights festival

The Nicosia Municipality’s Summer Nights 2026 Festival will continue on Wednesday, August 19, with a performance by the Sonare Flute & Piano Duo at the lower ground level of Eleftheria Square in old Nicosia.

The duo will present premieres of works by Cypriot composers alongside an international repertoire highlighting the dialogue between flute and piano. The concert will run from 7.30pm to 9pm and admission will be free.

Later in the month, the festival will present A Magical City at the square of the To Skali – Andreas Petrou cultural centre. Kaiti Oikonomide, Alexandros Foka and Panagiotis Kleitou will perform a nostalgic musical programme focused on nocturnal Nicosia.

Sarah’s Jazz Club programme

Sarah’s Jazz Club will host a series of group performances during August. On Thursday, August 20, jazz guitarist Ofer Ganor will perform with Cypriot musicians Irenaeos Koullouras, Marios Toumbas and Ioannis Vafeas.

Ganor has studied, recorded and performed with jazz musicians including Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and James Moody. Koullouras is a former student of US bassist Ron Carter, while pianist Toumbas recently performed at the Near and Far Kastellorizo Festival in Greece. Drummer Vafeas has released his second album, Catharsis.

The concert will mark the opening of Season 11 at Sarah’s Jazz Club. Doors will open at 8pm, with live music starting at 9pm. Admission will cost €15.

Blues and jazz performances

Backdoor Blues will perform at Sarah’s Jazz Club on August 21. The four-piece band will play blues and blues-rock songs, with a set expected to include music by BB King and Jimi Hendrix.

The band’s line-up includes Mike Riyashi on vocals, Adrian Curtis on electric guitar, Nektarios Cassar on bass and Stefanos Eliopoulos on drums.

On Sunday, August 21, American guitarist Dion Berardo will perform with Alexis Kasinos in Nicosia. They will be joined by Michael Messios on double bass and Omiros Miltiadous on drums for a programme of jazz standards from the Great American Songbook.
