Nicosia, Cyprus. An 85-year-old man is in critical condition after being injured in a road accident in Nicosia on Wednesday afternoon.

The pedestrian was struck by a car reversing near Archbishop Makarios Square, close to the Anthoupolis refugee camp.


Accident details

Police said the accident occurred at about 3.45pm when a car driven by a 38-year-old man was reversing and struck the 85-year-old, who was walking behind the vehicle.

The injured man was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where he was found to have suffered a cerebral haemorrhage and was admitted for treatment.

Driver tests

The 38-year-old driver tested negative for alcohol. A preliminary drug test returned a positive result.

Police investigations are continuing.
