Motorcyclist dies in head-on collision on Kellia–Troulloi road
Police are investigating the circumstances, including speed, of a crash that killed a 30-year-old motorcyclist in Larnaca district.

Larnaca, Cyprus. A 30-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision with a car carrying a family of four on the Kellia–Troulloi road on Sunday evening, marking Cyprus’ 26th road death this year. Larnaca Traffic Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash, including the motorcyclist’s speed.
Collision investigation
The motorcyclist, Georgios Georgiou, was travelling on the Kellia–Troulloi road at about 7.30pm when the collision occurred.
Georgiou, who had reportedly borrowed the motorcycle from his best man, entered a bend and crossed into the opposite lane under circumstances still under investigation. The motorcycle then collided head-on with a saloon car driven by a 28-year-old woman.
A 32-year-old passenger and the driver’s two children, aged four and two, were also in the car. All four occupants were taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where they received first aid and were discharged.
The driver tested negative in breathalyser and drug tests.
Cause of death
Georgiou was not wearing a helmet and was thrown onto the road, dying instantly. Coroner Nikolas Charalambous said an autopsy determined that he died from a severe head injury.
He was the father of a seven-year-old boy and a baby girl.
Support for family
Georgiou had worked for the Larnaca District Self-Government Organisation since 2021. He began as an hourly-paid worker at the former Larnaca Water Supply Council before joining the organisation’s staff.
DLGO president Angelos Hadjicharalambous described Georgiou as a valued and much-loved colleague and family man, known for his character, work ethic and dedication.
The organisation’s board met and agreed to provide financial support to his family and cover funeral expenses.
Road death figures
Police data show that motorcyclists account for more than half of the road deaths recorded this year, with 14 of the 26 people killed travelling on two-wheelers. Over the same period last year, 27 road deaths were recorded.
Police spokesperson Vyronas Vyronos told the Cyprus News Agency that drivers should comply with the traffic code, follow laws and regulations, and respect other road users. He urged motorists to remember that someone was waiting for them at home.
