Police arrest 10 in island-wide overnight crime prevention operation

Nicosia, Cyprus. Police said they carried out intensified crime prevention patrols across the island on Saturday night, resulting in 10 arrests for offences including drug possession, unlawful stay in the Republic and drink-driving.

Checks and arrests

The operation involved organised patrols at key points in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious crime, maintaining public order and increasing public security.

Police stopped 684 vehicles for inspection and checked 870 people. Officers also inspected 67 premises, where 13 offences were identified.

Traffic violations

During traffic checks, police issued 389 charges for various traffic violations and identified 12 cases requiring further investigation.

Of the charges issued, 98 concerned speeding. Fourteen vehicles were detained.

Police carried out 206 alcohol tests, resulting in 31 charges, and conducted 35 preliminary drug tests, with one positive result.

Continued operations

Police said crime prevention and suppression operations continue daily through an increased presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action.
