President Christodoulides announces partial cabinet reshuffle

Nicosia, Cyprus. President Nikos Christodoulides on Tuesday announced a partial cabinet reshuffle involving the transport and agriculture ministries and the deputy ministries of social welfare and culture. The new appointees are due to be sworn in at the presidential palace on Thursday.

Ministerial changes

Evanthia Tsolaki was appointed transport minister, replacing Alexis Vafeades.

Christos Senekis will become agriculture minister, succeeding Maria Panayiotou. Panayiotou announced last month that she would take up a teaching post at state high schools.

Tina Pavlou, director of the Ayia Skepi drug rehabilitation centre and a former Disy parliamentary candidate, was named deputy minister of social welfare, replacing Clea Hadjistefanou-Papaellina.

Hadjistefanou-Papaellina will move to the role of deputy minister of culture, succeeding Vassiliki Kassianidou.

Commissioner appointments

The president also announced changes to three commissioner positions.

Elias Myrianthos was appointed environment and animal welfare commissioner, Irini Poyatzi will serve as commissioner for the citizen, and Panayiotis Palates was named director of the president’s office.
