Nicosia, Cyprus. Children’s school bus fares have been set at €5 per month or €30 for the full school year, the transport ministry announced on Friday night.

Pupils from families of five or more people and children of guaranteed minimum income recipients will be eligible for free school bus travel.

Motion card requirement

Children must obtain a personalised Motion bus card before boarding school buses. Applicants must present either a certificate of attendance or a pupil identification card for the current school year to receive the card.

Free travel during first week

All school buses will operate free of charge during the first week of the school year, until September 11, to allow time for personalised Motion cards to be issued.

From September 14, pupils without valid Motion bus cards will not be permitted to board school buses.

Ministry objective

The ministry said the measures are intended to facilitate pupils’ daily travel and encourage more children to use public transport.
