Nicosia, Cyprus. A solar farm has been installed and put into operation at the bicommunal Mia Milia wastewater treatment plant, the Nicosia district government said on Wednesday.

Energy capacity and environmental impact

The solar farm has a maximum capacity of 1,081 kilowatt-peak and will use solar energy to cover part of the plant’s electricity needs.

The district government said the project is expected to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of the station’s operations and represents a step towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly wastewater management infrastructure.

Project funding and coordination

The project was constructed by the United Nations development project with funding from the European Union.

The Nicosia district government said the works to connect the solar farm to the plant’s power supply were coordinated and supervised by the team of Turkish Cypriot Nicosia mayor Mehmet Harmanci.

It added that it had maintained very good coordination with Harmanci over time. The connection works have been completed, and the solar farm is now operational.
