Nicosia, Cyprus. The Stelios Philanthropic Foundation has announced up to €260,000 in direct cash donations for the families of 26 people confirmed dead or reported missing after a ferry sank off Cyprus’s northern coast.

The August 30, 2026 sinking occurred a few miles off the northern coast of Cyprus, leaving eight people confirmed dead and 18 reported missing, according to the Foundation.

Financial assistance

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder and president of the Foundation and creator of the easy family of brands, offered condolences to the families and loved ones of those confirmed dead and expressed support for the families of those still missing.

The Foundation described the assistance as a gesture of support and solidarity for affected families. It said the total financial assistance of up to €260,000 is intended to provide immediate financial relief.

Under the scheme, the Foundation will make a €10,000 cash donation by bank transfer to the next of kin of any person confirmed dead as a result of the sinking, within one month of the incident.

Application process

Next of kin of deceased or missing people will be able to follow an application process to be published on the Foundation’s website, www.steliosfoundation.com.cy.

Payments will be made by bank transfer to the closest living relative of each victim, up to and including second-degree kinship. The closest relative must submit a written application proving their relationship to the victim.

The Foundation has set the following order of priority for the closest living relative: spouse, father, mother, oldest adult child, and oldest brother or sister.

Applicants will be required to submit documents confirming their relationship to the victim or missing person, contact details and bank account details, including an IBAN number.
