Nicosia, Cyprus. The Stelios Philanthropic Foundation has announced up to €260,000 in direct financial support for families of those killed in the ferry sinking off the northern coast of Cyprus.

Eight people have been confirmed dead following the August 30 sinking, while 18 others remain missing.

Support for affected families

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, creator and owner of the easy family of brands and founder and president of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, offered condolences to the families and loved ones of those confirmed dead, according to an announcement issued on Monday.

He also sent his thoughts and prayers to the families and loved ones of the 18 people still reported missing as a result of the sinking.

As a gesture of support and solidarity, the foundation is offering a €10,000 cash donation to the next of kin of each person confirmed dead within one month of the incident.

The maximum assistance of €260,000 would cover all 26 families if those currently reported missing are confirmed dead during that period.

Payment and eligibility

The foundation said the assistance is intended to provide immediate financial relief to families facing the consequences of the tragedy.

Payments will be made by bank transfer to the closest living relative of each victim, up to and including second-degree relatives.

Applicants must submit a written application proving their relationship to the victim. Details of the application process will be published on the foundation’s website.

The order of priority for the closest living relative is spouse, father, mother, oldest adult child, and oldest brother or sister.
